Step by step of the bug
Step 1
With a generic lord, defeat a legendary lord whose defeat trait buffs the victor's combat stats
Step 2
Save that lord
Step 3
In a new campaign, load that saved lord
Step 4
Check if the stat changes are present and applying from the defeat trait

When hiring a saved lord, any traits they have acquired are not applying until after 1 end turn phase or a save is made and loaded. This includes their inherent trait. I have also encountered an issue where their inherent trait is not the same as the one stated, eg states Unearthly Reflexes, but has poison attacks (so actually has Cunning).
