NERFS
End & reverse the nerfs 23 days ago
I hope you’ll agree that in PvE games/PvE game mode, no player should ever DL a patch or DLC and say “XYZ was fun; but now it isn’t.” That’s what happens when you nerf any player mechanic, unit, or tool that isn’t absolutely game breaking. It’s happened in Warhammer, it’s happened in Helldivers 2, and if it happens enough, players leave said game. And they don’t buy the next one.
For example, Taurox’s rampage & momentum mechanic & primary banner were nerfed between WH2 & WH3. Yes the Champion’s banner was strong and yes the movement mechanic could be cheesed. But that’s part of the Fun. And if you’re a player and think those things are game breaking (they’re not), you don’t have to unlock the banner or reset momentum every time.
A game breaking mechanic would be a first person shooter where every gun auto-aims onto the enemy’s head and auto-fires. Or an RPG where everything on screen insta-dies so long as you’re moving. Everything that’s been nerfed so far on Warhammer 3 was optional in the game or something that really helped make a faction stand apart from the others; Not Game breaking.
And not everyone is great at the game. Some things Should be OP for some players who need it. And it becomes a sad game of whack-a-mole. Each Next-Strongest mechanic, unit, etc stands out and then gets nerfed for the sake of “balance.” A horrible word when it comes to PvE action. And that’s how most people play the game. We want to unwind after a rough day, metaphorically conquer our bullies, and generally feel powerful.
Each nerf doesn’t balance the game; it Makes Us Feel Less Powerful. It feels like life. It’s one more thing taken away. Just the next in a long series of disappointments.
The legacy of successful PvE game developers has never been built on “look at how balanced it is!” What gets everyone talking about a game, and makes us persuade our friends to play it too, is the phrase “look what you’re able to do!” I want CA & Total War to succeed & I know the answer is more likely found in the addition of powerful tools, not in subtraction.
Please un-nerf everything you can and refrain from future nerfs.
