First Impressions of Playing as Gorbad

In the early turns of unifying the Badlands, I felt pure joy. However, when the Dwarfs suddenly launched an attack, I experienced a huge disconnect between my expectations and reality.

In Gorbad's lore, he united the Badlands before confronting the Dwarfs, who cowardly hid in their fortresses, prompting Gorbad to invade the Empire. Therefore, when playing as Gorbad, I hoped for an epic fortress siege against the Dwarfs, not a tunnel chase in the mountains—that style fits the Karak Eight Peaks theme more.

The disappointment I felt was similar to when I played Tamurkhan in Immortal Empires and couldn't find the Tower of Ashshair in Cathay. On top of that, the Dwarfs' surprise attack prevented my armies in the Badlands from defending in time. My army composition was built to counter low-armor Greenskins, not heavily-armored Dwarfs, which ultimately led me to abandon the campaign.

I hope Gorbad's campaign can be improved with the following changes:

  1. Change the starting enemy and the Greenskins occupying Iron Rock from Scabby Eye to Teef Snatchaz.
  2. Allow Karaz-a-Karak to start with both defensive buildings in the Deeps. And allow Karaz-a-Karak to start with two stationary but powerful garrison armies.

Another issue with Gorbad is that Greenskins have changed too much compared to before. Some of the Greenskin features I liked have been removed, making me less fond of them.

While I don't like that Dwarfs behave like bearded Skaven now, they should absolutely not just sit idly by while you are building up strength. This just means you can eventually overcome any challenge just by waiting long enough until you have gathered overwhelming strength. What's the point of strategy then if that's the solution to any obstacle?

No, the player should be more under pressure simply so you actually have to make hard choices and come up with strategies.

The only difference is defeating the nearby Dwarfs before doing anything else, which doesn't present any difficult choices. This approach is just like most Greenskins—lacking creativity and variety. However, from a role-playing perspective, it's quite disappointing.

Total war isn't roleplay. In lore everyone should start with tier 5 cities and full armies. Total war is a sandbox so it makes sense for dwarf to expand.

The power levels also is completely wrong compared to the lore. One bullet from a hand gunner should put most humanoid lord down. In game a human lord can tank a cannonball.

Disappointment from a roleplaying perspective would be if Dawi factions all pinged you with trade and alliance requests.

Dawi armies proactively attacking you as your orcs amass right outside their mountain borders is not some sort of affront to lore.
