Baltasar Gelt's Campaign Feels Wrong

One reason I can never bring myself to play Gelt's campaign (besides the powercreep) is that it feels completely out of place for Gelt to primarily use state troops when he's so far away from the Empire's lands. Is he inducting the locals into the faith of Sigmar and making them honorary Empire citizens? Don't think the dragons would like that very much. Something like Wulfhart's home-shipment mechanic would have been more appropriate but even without that I think there's ways to make Gelt's campaign feel less contrived and yet also more unique:

  1. All state troops take one additional turn to recruit and cost 20% more on recruitment and upkeep
  2. Gelt gains regular access to Cathayan peasant units (Peasant Spears, Peasant Archers and Peasant Horsemen) to make up the bulk of his forces
  3. Gelt can loan contingents of higher tiered Cathayan troops if he keeps playing nice with its rulers

BTW, this complain goes for pretty much any order faction (Skaven, Greenskins, Beastmen and co. exist pretty much everywhere, so it isn't as noticeable for them) that sets up shop far away from its borders, so Yuan Bo, Alberich, Imrik and co. should also have their campaigns changed to reflect the fact that they are far away from home. Markus being so far the only one just makes it stick out more.

I think it makes more sense for CA to update Wulfhearts mechanics rather than to rework every faction that starts far from their homeland.

Wulfhart's is the only one that actually makes sense.  It's the other ones which are half-arsed and gamey.

So no, don't remove the only good one to accommodate all the clumsy ones.

Wulfhart could use a few tweaks I guess but his mechanics are great and don't need to be reworked

A symptom of a character that never really should've left Reikland.

Tweaks and rework both refers to the same thing. The mechanic needs an update to remain competitive with all the other factions around him. I’m not saying they should remove it.

Ugh, I don't wanna' hear that argument ever again because that just means more powercreep.

You know, not every faction has to be a brainless steamroller with no stakes and challenge. Someone leading a small Empire enclave far away from home and on hostile territory should definitely not fall into that category.

No they don't, tweaking a few numbers to buff or nerf something is not the same as reworking at all. Rework implies it's a more major change.

Who says it should be? His mechanic are meant for a campaign that is no longer in the game. Currently his mechanics harm his campaign more than helping him. He needs more flexibility.

Yeah no, please keep that powercreep crap away.

I think it is some kind of delegation between two lore of metal users so it does make sense specially as Zhao is more open to other nations. The campaing feels wrong because of the OP landmark gelt can get in cathay making all spells absurdly powerful and the hero spam (powerful against the AI as they just blob around). I`d rather have gelt OP landmark moved to the old world together with colleges of magic, it is better to eat up cathay and send a hero to meet other imperial factions for confederation.

Rework can imply both those things. You can rework the numbers of a unit and you can rework a mechanic from the ground up, rework just means to change something.

it’s not power creep to update a faction so that it competitive with its surrounding factions.

Yes, that's exactly what it is.

No. I don't think Zhao would ever give away land and citizens to become essentially subjects to another state like that. Also, the elector counts back home would probably be weary of another province getting added and potentially having to deal with some Cathayan dragon to eventually rule the Empire some day. Any land Gelt takes for himself should come under the auspice of being quasi a hireling for Cathay who will only stay temporarily. That's also why I think Gelt should make heavier use of basic Cathayan troops rather than somehow turning Cathayans into good little Sigmar worshipers.

He's intended to be a difficult faction.

Yeah, Marcus shouldn't be "competitive" he should be a complete underdog as he's operating far away from home in a land that's full of enemies of many different kinds.

It still annoys me that Marcus is hard-coded to be hostile towards the Lizardmen and can't even try to cooperate with them. Even Pirazzo occasionally worked for the LM to get their gold.

No? Powercreep is when you release new factions or mechanics that is expansively more powerful then older factions and mechanics thus making them obsolete. Making old factions & mechanics competitive is does not inherently make it power creep as it’s not making them more powerful then what already exists. Look at what they gave Franz in his update. He is not any more powerful now then his was before the update. Same with Volkmar.

One of the true abominations of this trilogy.

Hopefully Marco Colombo will be coded to be the reverse.

He can be difficult while also being competitive

You say you want to buff Markus to be more competitive with whom? Effin' Skulltaker as that's the only guy witha  recent rework there? Yeah, that's called powercreep.
