You heard it here first folks

The suggested changes to the campaign AI will result in mega factions just like we had in the olden times

I kinda miss the megafactions.  At least they offered a challenge in the lategame.

Not really, they just ensured you had to fight samey samey armies for long periods of time

Very boring

I remember there being a decent amount of army diversity within factions back in TW:WH2, actually.

And it was far more challenging than rolling over dozens of tiny minor factions.

The problem with WH2 was that it was always the same five or so factions in the end game. The biggest factor leading to those mega-factions was confederation, which isn’t really changing in this AI update.

This should mostly just result in less passive factions. Ultimately that means bigger empires, but probably not to the same style as WH2 end game and with random faction potential, at least different ones. Of course outside of the overbuffed and overpowered factions that have strong autoresolves like Dwarfs that is.

Its called rose-tinted glasses

The reality was years of dawi tide

Years of De tide

And so on

Made the endgame a gigantic slog

mega factions in tww2 gave the illusion of challenge, you saw the settlement count keep growing, but after the initial wave of armies, that’s basically it, the faction is defeated and you just gotta push through. Expection being if you fall behind the ai too much. If the ai gets better at handling large factions then it could potentially be interedting though.

I don't think so. In my opinion, it will only contribute to getting rid of the minor factions more quickly. They are already placeholders and, to be honest, not much different from the rebels of pre-Empire games. Same goes for the AI, by the way. I can't understand why mistaking a few mysterious agents for armies will lead the AI to assemble a ridiculous number of armies in its capital. I have a feeling that the beta will be kind of immaterial.

Okay, hear me out on this one, I know it sounds crazy but:

why don´t we try the beta, judge then AND provide feedback so that CA might adjust what they are changing.

Or we could just nag and doompost. Probably easier.

Remains to be seen. We only had these boring mega factions because of confederation. From what we know that’s not gonna get touched with this beta. So I expect a healthy middleground.

This is old debate. Should this game be more Total War or more Warhammer?

This game is first and foremost Total War. Warhammer is "only" a setting. I would personally like different game but I never excepted it.

TW:W3 is the final clash. In the end (times) there will be one superpower (or alliance) rulling the world.

There should be large factions in the endgame for the player to fight. What we have right now is absolutely pathetic, a gaggle of wimps acting mostly passively who can't possibly pose any threat to a large player endgame empire. I think they should go one step further and have the player face a dedicated rival empire like in Troy, so one faction whose only goal is to defeat the player by any means necessary and which uses all tools available.

Hi there, be sure to give the beta a go and complete the survey. The beta is an opportunity for you to tell us what you think of the changes - the feedback will be evaluated thoroughly :) The door is open for further changes and improvements, that is why we are taking the Beta approach with this. Best, CA_Nova

Woah, woah there! If we’re not nagging and doomposting, then what are we really doing here?

Respect tradition.

Thank you for the offer but alas i rarely do beta testing in games and Total War is not one of the few where i participate in such practices

I am sure that plenty other people enjoy it and will provide you with ample hands on feedback though

You may be right. Making minor factions even weaker - just a fodder basically - is a bad move by CA.

I also always hated how in WH2 AI would confederate bigger faction when almost defeated, always when left with one settlement.

You know, CA could add different mechanics to make game harder - something a la EU4 with core territories, deeper diplomacy, coalitions...
