Allow/Make All Contact Effects Stack, Please

I was following a bug thread (https://community.creative-assembly.com/total-war/total-war-warhammer/bugs/1627-please-make-units-be-able-to-have-multiple-contact-effects?page=1) that talked about this. It was said it was intended but also that some contact effects do stack.

Screenshot_20250114_065048_Adblock Browser.jpgFollowing the suggestion, I am making a forum post about the subject.

I have never seen any contact effects stack ever, unless they are referring to magical and flaming attacks as contact effects (do they get ignored by Immune to Contact Effects?). Either way, an example would be swell, because then I may be able to get a reference to look at to try and mod to allow all effects to be simultaneously present on a single unit.

That, however, is the core problem in my experience. Having contact effects replace each other just feels really bad. It isn't fun to get an "upgrade" that then just replaces and at times weakens what was previously there.

Why do my Sigvald Aspiring Champions have to choose between poison and soporific musk? I earned both fair and square.

I shouldn't have to go out of my way to avoid killing Katarin and Ghorst with certain lords just because I know their superior contact effect (i.e. weeping blades, armor sundering, warpflame, etc.) will be replaced with frostbite or poison.

Legendary Lord defeat traits should be a reward and give a boost, not a side-grade at most or a de-powering at worst.

My different abilities, weapons/items, technologies, skill unlocks, faction effects, and even spell buffs should be that: buffs. That is the point of using them after all. Non-stacking/non-simluntaneous contact effects literally negates the purpose of so many buffs/items/techs/traits, which is kinda lame in my personal opinion.

If this is supposed to be a balance thing, it still doesn't make sense. It's fairly difficult to stack more than two contact effects (unless we are counting flaming and magical attacks, which I do not, but I don't know behind the scenes what is considered) on most units, and generally those units are supposed to be strong, which I figure is the point of getting multiple affects available. For most lords, three is about the max you'd be getting without going out of your way and spending considerable time getting more.

Very few contact effects are so powerful that stacking them would be busted. Every single one of those really strong ones that I can think of are restricted to a specific lord or unit type and are the ones that get replaced by the generic weaker ones, anyways. Letting my powerful debuff stack with a small slow or small melee attack debuff on a single lord or unit is a nice reward for techs, traits, and special weapons or abilities, not game breaking.

Spells are a brief, temporary buff that cost a limited resource; the contact effect imbuements some provide should stack, not replace.

This all said, I am referring to single player; I have no experience playing multiplayer in this game. Even then, I imagine much of this applies, plus I know that the non-stacking nature of contact effects has been a very consistent cause of desync crashes (although that may have been fixed by now).

Gonna address this now, it is magic, there is no "lore" reason I cannot have multiple contact effects. You are not going to accidentally min-max your characters, and in normal play it is rewarding to get stronger when you progress and unlock new stuff.

In closing, I feel like my efforts and the progression of character and factions should be rewarding. It feels really bad when I see that I have a shiny new effect but it doesn't matter because it replaces my other one or gets replaced, rather than me getting all of my hard earned effects.

At worst, make a character screen toggle that lets us choose which effect we want active (although that still feels really bad and doesn't address the issue of in battle abilities and spells, as well as special units that get tech, skill, and faction contact effects in addition to their innate ones, which honestly can feel worse at times than the lords and heroes, cause then sometimes my regiment of reknown just becomes a more expensive reskin of the normal unit, haha).

At best, though, just let all the effects be active simultaneously. In normal play, it will be fun and straightforward, and when power gaming, it will just let you get even more powerful (because rest assured they will become busted regardless of contact effects, it will just be more fun and rearding with more to add). No one I have met or talked to expects the effects to replace each other, they are expecting stacking, and have generally been disappointed/underwhelmed when discovering the truth. It'd be good to hear what even more people have to say on the, matter, though. I'd politely ask to just let them all be on at the same time if you've got them unlocked/applied.

Sorry if this was too long 😅

100% agree. Especially when a new contact effect is a downgrade on the old one, it's really frustrating. At least we should be able to choose between them.
