The Aranessa Dilemma

Looking forward, after ToT we may get the much anticipated Dogs of War Race Pack.

We've slowly been collecting bits and pieces that could make up the roster. The Dogs keep growing.png

With the Dogs update it would be the perfect time to update a LL that potentially should have been in the Dogs of War instead of the Vampire Coast. Aranessa Saltspite.

Putting her in the Vampire Coast was a weird, slightly understandable but weird. We can agree on that, but we can right that wrong... or at least put a Band-Aid on it.

A dilemma is my solution that does not require her changing race. This turn 1 dilemma involves disgraced Dreadfleet Captains approaching her and willing to work for her to defeat a common enemy (Noctilus)The Aranessa Dilema 4.png

If you don't have the Dogs DLC, you wont get the dilemma, she simply accepts the mutineer Vampires offer. Simple as that.

In practice, the Dilemma would give her Vampire Mechanics, Buildings and Roster or Dogs of War Mechanics, Buildings and Roster. It lets you decide. The Aranessa Dilema 1.png

Something needs to be done about Sartosa. I'm hoping for it to happen with the Dogs update.

What dilemma? She already got her mortal pirates and Maneaters. CA just should also give her Slayer Pirates. And no, there is no reason for her to be in DoW over an actual pirate race with pirate-themed mechanics.

2 units of mid-tier infantry and generic Ogres are not enough for her to form a roster. And certainly not valid for multiple armies, since she has no mortal generics.

Either she needs to be moved, or her roster needs to be expanded to the point where she doesn't need any Undead at all. Living pirates, artillery, monsters and generics.

The Vampire Coast roster is bigger than that.

There won't be another pirate race to move her in. Anyone who expect that is delusional.

I wish people would move on from this MOVE X LORD TO Y RACE garbage. It's not going to happen. And what is definitely NOT going to happen is giving a dilemma that allows a Lord to pick which faction they want to play as when starting.

I would love for abomination Lords like Aranessa and Sigvald to be fixed but they just aren't going to be moved or giving any dual starts. They need to be fixed within the scope of their faction.

A thousand times yes.  Aranessa needs to be in DoW, not VCoast.

**** that.  Just change her damn race.  She should never have been in the VCoast.

Faction mechanics are not tied to Races.  She can keep most of the pirate-themed mechanics she has now, even as a DoW LLs.

She needs to get the **** OUT of the roster that's 95% undead.

3 units is not a goddamn campaign!

That's pathetic.  You know it's wrong, but you're not willing to fight for it.

The rest is undead. And Undead is a no-go for Aranessa.

Anyone who plays her and uses undead is an associate to the biggest atrocity that CA has ever comitted.

Who told you that?

Her lore.

Could you provide a quote?

She was part of the Grand Alliance and she was against the Dreadfleet.

I don't see her as DoW either. Vampire Coast could be more like Pirate Coast. With more living units - mutants and sea monsters.

The point of the Dilemma is giving you an option to play with the Vampire Coast roster and a full Dogs roster.

You and I both know they won’t do that. There would be a legality about moving her from one dlc to another. I explained in OP how to get around it.

And be moved to a roster that's 2% Pirate ? At least in the Vampire Coast she has Pirate units, she'd barely have any in the DoW.

That's right, she fight the Dreadfleet specifically, not every undead. You know there are undead pirates in Sartosa in the lore ? They even had a couple of models in a White Dwarf issue. She should probably get a limited Undead roster and stop spreading corruption but her having Undead is not as lore breaking as people claim.

Aranessa, and why is she part of the Vampire Coast:

Sartosa was a typical pirate town, much like the real-life Tortuga. But then in 2006 Johnny Depp and Pirates of the Caribbean made a bank. Sartosa has never been the same since then. Riddled with undead and such.

Five years later, there was a book about her which I didn't read, but from the synopsis, there were bad guys (Grand Alliance of Sartosa) and even worse guys (Dreadfleet) pitted against each other.

And now for WH2 - she is tied to Sartosa, a town that is now half undead. It was stated in-game that her foster daddy, Manann, gave her all the drowned creatures at her disposal. That is why she can command the undead. Quite a good explanation if you ask me.

Yeah, that's why she shouldn't be able to confederate Noctilus. It doesn't mean that she absolutely cannot use any undead units.

Why would she use a full DoW roster in the first place? She's a pirate, not a mercenary general or a merchant prince.

Anyone with a smidge of respect for the integrity of her lore, Sartosa's and that of the Grand Alliance v Dreadfleet thing will come to the same conclusion.

Sartosa is not supposed to be a realm of Undead. There may be a small, small minority that are Undead, but the vast majority are living DoW adjascent culture.

Its lore breaking in a living LL being able to raise dead. Her roster needs to be MAJORITY living and being able to be led independently by living mortals.

I would love to see Aranessa given an option like this to give her the option to do a full mortal play though. Along with all the mortal units mentioned above I would suggest she be given mortal cannons and mortars also (crewed with pirates rather than empire troops).Wh_main_emp_mortar.pngWh_main_emp_cannon.png

Here is what Coast have in terms of material and here you can see what should be minimum additions to Aranessa.

That and heavily, HEAVILY restrict her access to undead.
