So, how's everyone experience with the AI beta?

I think it has been long enough for everyone to try things out, so how's everyone experience so far? Is there some kind of consensus on it? Better, the same as before, worse?

Personally for me I've been testing things in all difficulty settings and I've noticed that the AI in general seems to be more active, so it's a step in the right direction.

I started another Tamurkhan campaign and the AI is definitely more active, I can’t really say that it's more challenging tho. The Ai simply tries more aggressively to expand which is a plus.

I’m only 30 turns into the campaign but factions like Drazhoath, Astragoth, Greasus and Zhao Ming already have 10-15 settlements. It really seems like major factions try to expand much quicker and more aggressively.

I think that there are going to be some unintended outcomes (not bugs, unintended outcomes) that arise as a result of some of the changes.

I physically saw Franz (not his faction) near Sylvania well before turn 20. I've never seen that before. Franz inexplicably disappeared from his eastern holdings and I never saw him again. That is until I got a very -- and I mean VERY -- surprising opportunity to confederate Kemmler on turn 25. I've never seen that happen either. Franz (level 18) had returned to his starting province and was mopping the floor with -- level 16 -- Kemmler and he was eager to survive the onslaught of 3 empire armies. Apparently Kemmler had taken quite a few settlements in the Empire and now he was being beaten back, but he had no where to return to; he was thoroughly expelled from his starting location.

Captain Rex's experience.

I think his experience with Zhatan mirrors your experience with Franz/Kemmler.  AI factions ignore their home province and go off conquering regions, prioritizing lightly defended areas for easy conquest but not really considering whether they can be developed and defended.

Yeah pretty much. In the past CA specifically changed the AI to prioritise nearby areas to prevent it from doing exactly this.

It’s just annoying seeing a neutral or even allied faction crossing “half the map” to conquer 1 undefended settlement that you wanted.

Hi there, I have moved this thread to the CAI Beta subforum so that we can keep conversation about this together in one place. Best, CA_Nova

Exactly my thoughts as well. I think that for Legendary difficulty the AI should be a tad more aggressive and powerful and it would suffice. The issue for me really is the general lack of difficulty through meaningful mechanics that require the player to plan, manage, and strategize. Two biggest offenders are public order and corruption which CA have stated they're looking to rework.

Overall, I think this beta is a HUGE step in the right direction. If CA could somehow strike a balance between these two issues, we'd really be getting somewhere.

My experience is that the new AI is just as bad as the old AI. There are some bug fixes but also some new bugs which are almost just as bad (Li Ming being broken).

Definitely some unintended outcomes as a result of this BETA. More legendary lords have their unique items and their race's legendary heroes sooner than before. A lot of them relied on triggers that were difficult for them achieve in the live version of the game. Things like owning multiple provinces wouldn't happen until much later in the campaign, if they happened at all. This would often results in confederations that saw us never unlocking all of the benefits associated with the acquisition of these lords. That's a pretty big win in my view.

Speaking of confederations; the A.I. seems more open to the idea than they previously were. I don't think that, that is a coincidence or a placebo effect. There were factions that were facing certain death that would not confederate. They would actually rather be destroyed than confederate with us. Lol. That's another 'big bag of win' in my view.

I would like to start a Kroq Gar campaign but I hate its campaign start and its starting army and its pacing and its starting enemy. It's the kind of campaign that seems like it will tell us a lot about how the BETA is affecting the behavior of the A.I. the most.
