What’s Next is back, revealing the next faction for our upcoming DLC, Total War: WARHAMMER III – Tides of Torment, releasing later this Summer. This episode gives full focus to our next faction, Norsca, and its newest Legendary Lord: Sayl The Faithless.

Creative Director Todor Nikolov, Lead Designer Vasil Nikolov, and Art Director Stoyan Stoyanov sit down with myself, subbing in for KingGobbo who recently welcomed two baby Mangler Squigs to his family and will be spending some well-earned time off whilst we keep the wheels turning. Congratulations to the Colemans from all of us across Total War!

Watch this full episode of What’s Next right here on the Total War YouTube Channel 👇👀

We were thrilled to reveal Sayl alongside our friends across gaming at yesterday's Skulls Showcase, which if you missed you can check it out here.

Unlike past Skulls events, this year we haven’t released a free legendary lord as we’ve shifted our priorities over the past year to introduce more free content through our game updates, but we didn’t want you to think we’d forgotten about you all the same. 6.2 is not too far beyond the horizon, bringing with it some new units:

  • Blood Knights (Sword & Shield)

  • Hobgoblin Bolt Throwa

You’ll find an early preview of additional content coming to 6.2 in this episode of What’s Next, and we’ll be back within the next few weeks with more information about our next title update, which we're expecting will release just after we pass the halfway mark in June.

And What’s Next will return at the end of June with a look at our third and final faction for Tides of Torment. We’ll have more behind the scenes looks to show and share with you in the mean-time, and until then, let us know what you’ve loved hearing about today, we always enjoy reading through your feedback!

See you on the battlefields,

Ca are you kidding - well, you are replacing a proper Legendary Hero (shall we get Bugman in this game?!) with 2 unit weapon swaps that an average modder will make in an hour. Why you add unit weapon options that have never had existed in the game like Bloodknights with Swords variant and ignore existing missing ones. Why not Skullcrushers with Enscrolled weapons? Or you could make reskins nd add missing Gorebeast Charriots to Tzeench, Nurgle and Slaanesh. Or make marked Chaos Gaints to all the 4 gods - you ve already got RoR variant for Nurgle. Whi is in charge of these odd decisions?

As long as there’s something new, I’m happy—we’re still getting gifts after all.
Rather than legendary heroes, I’d prefer something more general and widely usable.
Let the legendary ones become full lord factions instead.

If you want to give Wulfrik fast movement on the sea - great, but don't just give him a teleport, be creative and make a mechanic to travel from port to port at a cost of something.

When it comes to the variation of armies and lords within a race, I must say that the Sofia team has done the best job so far in this regard.

That's fine, LHs are not interesting enough to be really worth adding a lot of the time imo. Something you're going to use all the time has so much more value than a LH that you unlock once the campaign is already won anyway.

I mean sure you can cut LHs but if you’re gonna do that, add more than 2 reskin units. Add a decent amount of these filler units.

Hmm  nice to have some more units but disappointing nothing actually for skulls.

Blood Knights sound fun but keep plenty of stuff for that essential Neferata DLC

Sounds good. Sofia are definitely looking to improve the core game as well, for which I am grateful. I would like them to consider the distribution and starting locations of LLs as well.

Are they currently working on  a  star wars ? I hope their hero system is the same as three kingdoms.

Please give Khalida the love she deserves! <3

Instead of introducing newer characters to the game, perhaps it would be a great opportunity and change to buff/rework struggling and underpowered lords. It would bring a whole new fresh experience to the game for the majority of players that haven´t even touched upon for example Tomb Kings. Here are some key points as to why I believe Khalida deserves a rework:

-Terrible starting position: She is surrounded by aggressive and much stronger enemies at the start with limited potential of growth which creates a weaker army (they also lack damage in comparison to other armies).

-Character design: She is supposted to be a castor and dualist, but she wields no tools to reflect exactly that of which her lore is. She is supposed to be the queen and priestess of Lybaras, yet she only wields a serpent staff and has some base armor making her a meat shield to bait enemies into the range of the ushaptis. This strategy unfortunately does NOTHING in online gameplay. She is being overshadowed by the other Tomb Kings. (Her visual design looks good on one hand though).

-Meta: The meta is the opposite of Khalida; Skirmish-heavy builds, Anti-large and armor-piercing damage, mobility, and magic dominance. Here Khalida lacks in every domain. Her skirmish units SUCK, not to mention her skeleton archers with a baffling 1 ARMOR PIERCING DAMAGE. Her army has low mobility, which makes it impossible to have map-control or perform cycle-charging. Last but not least, magic is meta and Khalida is supposed to be a castor yet has NO SPELLS

Khalida is often wiped out of the game in the early turns, and instead of opponents laughing when they see Khalida, perhaps a rework would make them intimidated. Overall a rework could align her identity in the lore with more impactful, powerful gameplay mechanics and make her shine like the queen she is. (Yes she is my favorite by far, and the only lord I care about).

There are so many other issues Khalida has in her campaign that I could have listed, but other users that have more knowledge than me have suggested many good ideas to make her viable again, and reworking her is such a good opportunity to make her playable and draw back players to this universe.

Lastly, please add a Khalida profile picture option. I would pay for it.

And perhaps a Khalida rework 0.0

This is great! I know it's probably not feasible but I do feel saddened that new lords will not be in the main Realm of Chaos campaign anymore. Total War Warhammer 2 had a stellar campaign with the Vortex and each new faction added felt like it enhanced the experience. Hopefully this is due to them working on some sort of End Times campaign and if implemented we could use these new lords in it. Immortal Empires is good, but the lack of campaign makes it feel a bit empty and aimless.
