Could CA actually be able to use Wascape to make a new Medieval 3, with all its spaghetti code?

That engine is 16 years old now counting from release of Empire Total War (longer if we account production time used for Empire), games run like ass on it sometimes with all the pathfinding issues and it is not good for supporting lots of mods. Its just not good for it then.

Just to fight the myth: The current engine is called "TW Engine 3". Warscape is only a special part of this engine. According to rumors TW Engine 4 is in development since years and is used for the next fantasy and historical games.

It’s the 3D engine. That’s why people confuse it all the time. But a game engine contains more than just the 3D part.

No, Warscape in its core has incompetent unbelievable combat foundation, like animation system is scripted and weightless, combat is non collision based but matched scripted mathematical formulas. Graphics suffer same issue like UE5 with blurrines and smear.

Honestly, I think it could work, but I do think that CA should at least update the Warscape engine to the next level if nothing else.

And I've never really seen all the problems that some people claim that this engine supposedly has, as I do think that units have weight and such to them.

Well apparently there is alot of technical debt, which causes spaghetti code, making building new stuff just difficult, because everythjng is connected. So if you tru to build things on top of things, like CA do now, then the tech debt rises...and in theory everything takes longer to develop and grows more complicated.

I don't think they should do make Medieval 3 on it because of this, especially that it would also make modding harder.

But this is probably just wishful thinking,  CA will want decent sales from games made on it.

Well, I can understand that, though I think that maybe CA could really upgrade the engine to basically be a new one or something, but I wouldn't be against them making a newer engine and not just trying to instantly jump to using the newest Unreal Engine 5, at least not without really testing it out with their games.
