Is this game dead?

Forums seem to be dead, no patches have been released in months, and to be honest I haven't touched Pharaoh Dynasties since August.

I enjoy the campaign, but the major turn-off for me is that CA has no interest in or intention to fixing the multiplayer desync issue, despite my numerous support tickets. Nothing outside of Warhammer seems to be a priority for CA anymore.

Hey there,

Back in July, as part of our Q&A series with the devs, we did announce that Dynasties would be the last planned content for PHARAOH, and as such we have no news or announcements planned for the title.

Thank you!

KG

Well, are there any plans for a bug fix patch?

Thank you for following up KG. I understand that the dev team is done making new content for Pharaoh (it's a pity but I understand), however my concern is whether or not the team is working on a fix for the MP desync bug? I haven't played a MP campaign in Pharaoh that lasted 5 turns before end turn desyncs made it unplayable.

It has fewer players than a 20-years old game, so I think the answer is yes. If I recall correctly, CA only promised a single patch after the Dynasty update.

The game has few players because CA gave it a modicum of attention, marketing, and support. The Bronze Age is never going to be as popular a theme as Medieval or Rome, but Pharaoh has some legit concerns (cavalry units in Mesopotamia, the MP desync Issue, the lack of an Habiru faction) that left many players feeling unsatisfied at best, and jilted at worst.

It's disappointing, but it's best to view Dynasties as a goodwill gesture from Sofia.  It was a genuinely big update that a lot of companies would not have done.

Modders will have to shoulder the burden of bugfixes and new content.

i'm a little disappointed because i was expecting at least one more patch, but KG's post cuts the thread of hope. and that's fine, it will mean that i don't have to update the mods i have installed.

i still play it and i'm having a lot of fun.

TW Historical games and its communities, that were the ones that sustained TW for decades, got totally despised by new TW workers and SEGA that imposed their childish phantasies by creating unrealistic and phantasy games. What hapened? those loyal fanatics of historical TW gave up and got old.

I’ve been here since Shogun 1 and I quite enjoy the fantasy element. Let’s not pretend this is the case for everyone. It’s a mixed bag, the issue is that historical games don’t usually have a long life in them.

They used to, Rome II had years of support, and if we extend the conversation to include mods bringing life to a game, Med II is alive almost 20 years later.

Modern CA has a very bad habit of dropping anything that isn't Warhammer too soon.

R2 was nothing like the DLC sales of WHTW, as CA said, the DLC sales would immediately start to drop. There was a 3 year gap at certain points with R2 DLC.

The reason they stick with WH is because the DLC sells better and is more consistent.

Remember, WH2 wasn't huge until much later DLCs and reworks, especially the potion of swiftness update.  Warhammer has certainly has it's low points where dlcs haven't sold well and CA stuck with it and changed what they needed to (see SoC).  That's the difference, a non warhammer TW entry would have been killed off for similar dips in performance.

But it's more fundamental than just if a game gets support or not.  CA posted recently in their end of year message about being more transparent and trying to repair their public image.  That's great but it's not at all controversial to say they are only currently trying in areas related to Warhammer.  Pharaoh for example, just got silently dropped and it really wouldn't have hurt to have a final bug fix patch and a "thanks for playing Pharaoh, we're moving on" message.

No, as CA themselves as stated, they made the game overall bigger than originally planned because of how well the DLCs sold. I also don’t think it takes a lot of thought to realise that a full priced update for R2, after only a year would not have sold as well, they learned that lesson by game 3.

The fact remains that DLC sales are much more consistent and higher with WH, that’s just a fact.

I think you've drifted somewhat, the original question is "is the game dead?"  There was no announcement of support ending for Pharaoh (hence the thread), and it really could do with a final bug fix.
If you want to discuss warhammer in detail I suggest you use the dedicated forum.  Cheers.
